THE TEA SET
PAPER, INK, GRAPHITE, ACRYLIC
The object I created is a children’s tea set, which reflects the memory of visiting the La Crema coffee shop with my family. In my mind, I’ve been going to this coffee shop since I was in kindergarten. I remembered my family would take me there in the afternoon or at night (after dinner) just to chat about projects, sit, drink coffee, or think silently. Before going to the cafe, I always bring a few notebooks, sketchbooks, and a bag of drawing materials(markers, pens, pencils, and more). Back then, I remembered I would sit at the round, brown table and just draw on a big sheet of white paper. From my years of visiting the cafe, I observed my parents’ interaction with the barista, their friends, and between themselves. I was strongly influenced by the interaction between people when they are having drinks at the same time. The act of drinking coffee or any kind of beverage seems to preserve the talks people were having or any kind of emotions and memories at that moment. The coffee shop also became my thinking space, which is where I work, mostly. I worked on art, college essays, math studies, homework, personal projects and more. Sometimes, I even go there just for an iced latte and a place for contemplation. Although the coffee shop didn’t have fancy interior designs, it is a colorful playground to me.
